RCI Leads the Field at 2018 Cruise Critic Awards

Royal Caribbean International has been named the top-rated cruise line across the most categories in this year's annual UK Cruisers' Choice Awards

The line’s Oasis-class namesake, Oasis of the Seas, won Best Overall, Best Entertainment and Best Shore Excursions in the large ship category, as well as Best for First-Timers across all categories.

Meanwhile, Royal Caribbean’s Brilliance of the Seas won Best Service, and Freedom of the Seas secured the Best Fitness & Recreation award.

Celebrity also scooped three awards, including Best Embarkation and Best Public Rooms, as well as a cross-category win for Best for Families. Additionally, Norwegian Cruise Line was successful in two categories.

Rankings are based on ratings given by Cruise Critic members in published member reviews; awards are based on 2017 cruise reviews.

Ships must have a minimum number of member reviews and ratings in a particular category in order to be included in that category’s top 10 list.

Ship size is designated as follows:
Large ships: 2,000+ passengers (double occupancy)
Mid-size ships: 1,200 – 1,999 passengers (double occupancy)
Small ships: 1,199 or fewer passengers (double occupancy)

“The UK Cruisers’ Choice Awards mark an important date in the cruise industry’s calendar, highlighting the cruise ships that UK travellers rank as particularly outstanding – from excellent service and amazing entertainment to the best dining experiences, cabins and shore excursions,” said Adam Coulter, Cruise Critic’s UK Managing Editor.

“Our members play an invaluable role in helping to inform and guide other cruisers and first-time travellers to find and choose the best cruise ships for their ideal holiday, and indeed, we couldn’t have this authoritative awards programme without them.”

This year, in the mid-size category, Marella Cruises (formerly Thomson Cruises) walked away with four awards – up from three last year – including Best Overall, Best Service, Best for Value and Best Shore Excursions, all for Marella Spirit.

Additionally, Cunard claimed Best Cabins for Queen Victoria, as well as the Best Public Rooms accolade.

Stealing the show in the small ship category, Hurtigruten came away with wins in five areas: Best Overall, Best Cabins, Best Service, Best Shore Excursions and Best for Value.

Ratings shown have been rounded to the first decimal place, although they are calculated to the eighth decimal place and ordered as such; in the unlikely event of an exact tie, tied ships will instead order by the highest number of records entered, then alphabetically.
