Qantas airline have said that the chances of resuming long haul uk-us flights within the next year look unlikely, Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce announced at the company’s Annual General Meeting:
“For some of our big destinations like the United States and the UK, it’s going to need a vaccine given the high prevalence of the virus in both of those locations.
“It’s going to take some time to recover international travel back.”
The airline have reported a slow increase in the domestic market, but even at increase, it still only runs around 30% of its pre-pandemic levels.
“We’re expecting to see a boom in domestic tourism once more borders open up,” Joyce said.
Qantas are reported to have a loss of around A$100 million in the first quarter of the new fiscal year as a direct result of border closures.
