US President Joe Biden has confirmed he will visit Northern Ireland after being invited to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement

US President Joe Biden has confirmed he will visit Northern Ireland after being invited to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

The five-day presidential visit to Ireland is set to take place next month and will be formally announced by the White House this week.

The US president will spend time in Belfast and Dublin, but the majority of his stay will be spent in Mayo, where his ancestral roots lie.

Speaking at a joint press conference in California with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Mr Biden confirmed it was his intention to visit both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Mr Biden will fly into Belfast around April 10 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement before travelling to Dublin.

He will then spend up to three days in Mayo.

It is understood White House officials and Secret Service agents travelled to Northern Ireland earlier this month to make preparations for the trip.
