Popular amongst backpackers and adventure-seekers, over 40 countries will now be able to travel visa-free for up to 30 days to Sri Lanka.
Seated within the Indian Ocean, it’s parliament has approved these regulations to boost tourism in the area.
Announced to parliament by Public Security and Parliament Affairs Minister, Anada Wijepala, countries stated within the regulation include the United kingdom, Ireland, United States, Canada, Spain, Turkey and New Zealand to name a few. China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Russia and Thailand has previously been granted free-visa access at an earlier date.
Travellers will still be required to hold a Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for travel, but the regulation wavers a visa fee for those visiting within 30 days.
The Sri Lankan parliament expect the ruling to encourage up to 247,000 more tourists to visit.
