Police have arrested a man over an airline bomb scare believed to have been sparked by a hoax phone call from Turkey.

The phone call forced RAF fighter jets to intercept a passenger plane and force it to make an emergency landing at London Stansted.

The flight, from Dalaman in Turkey to Manchester, was grounded for two hours during which up to 220 passengers had to remain onboard.

A spokesperson for the Manchester Police Force said: “We have arrested a man in his 30s following a report regarding a flight to Manchester airport.

“We are treating the incident as a suspected bomb hoax and initial enquiries into the full circumstances are underway.”
