Passengers Evacuated after Fire at Alicante Airport

Alicante Airport was evacuated yesterday after a fire broke out on the roof of the terminal building

Alicante Airport was evacuated yesterday after a fire broke out on the roof of the terminal building.

Inbound flights had to be diverted to the nearby airports of Murcia and Valencia while the fire was brought under control.

Spanish airport operator Aena tweeted: “For security reasons the airport terminal is being evacuated away from Alicante-Elche due to a fire on the deck.”

It is not know what caused the fire, which was extinguished by firefighters in around half an hour.

There were no reported injuries.

Outbound flights have now resumed although there are likely to be knock-on delays.

Passengers are advised to check the status of their flight.
