On The Road Towards a Carbon Neutral Society

Japanese engine manufacturer Yanmar whose brand statement is to create a sustainable future, develops a nautical hydrogen fuel cell system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in hopes of creating a carbon neutral society.

Plans to reduce the use of fossil fuels are being mapped out around the world to achieve this goal. An example of this was when the European Commission recently revealed their plans to ban the sale of cars by 2035 that are powered by diesel and gasoline. And replace these with electric powered vehicles. A clean source of energy is hydrogen which can replace fossil fuel sources.

Yanmar has created a fuel cell technology that uses hydrogen to produce electricity. Hydrogen has a lot of potential as a cleaner energy source for the future of society because it can be produced from water and electricity which is then generated from natural renewable energy sources such as wind, solar power and geothermal. With zero C02 emissions when using.

Despite the disruption in development of the demonstration boat due to Covid-19. The project team managed to complete the 38-foot test boat successfully and tests commenced in march 2021.
