New York Mayor Announces Vaccine Initiative for Theatre Workers

New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio, has announced a new vaccine initiative for theatre workers and actors to help revive New York City's theatre industry

Announcing a new vaccine initiative for theatre workers and actors, New York Mayor, Bill de Blasio said the City would “move heaven and earth to bring Broadway back”.

The initiative is aimed at helping revive New York’s theatre industry by allowing theatres to begin preparing for the Autumn season through rehearsals and set-building.

The city will set up a vaccination centre with appointments held exclusively for theatre workers in the theatre district, and will have pop-up vaccination sites at Off Broadway theatres around the city with other pop-up sites located near other theatres.

Mr de Blasio called on the state to offer clear guidance for theatre workers on mask usage and personal protective equipment, as well as rules for checking audience members’ vaccination status and negative test requirements.

The new vaccination initiative is part of de Blasio’s effort to revive New York City’s economy. Broadway employs about 100,000 people, and forms the bone of New York City’s massive tourism industry.
