New Tourism Ireland Video Celebrates Saying YES to Love

Tourism Ireland have released a new video celebrating the five-year anniversary of same-sex marriage referendum

Tourism Ireland has unveiled a new online film to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the same-sex marriage referendum.

On 22 May 2015, the people of Ireland went to the polls to make history – as the first country to legalise same-sex marriage by popular vote.

To mark five years since this momentous occasion, Tourism Ireland has created a video featuring voices from Ireland’s LGBTQ+ community, describing how home has changed for them since that day. The film also features the historic celebrations in Dublin Castle as the results emerged, as well as stunning scenery and landmarks like the 5,000-year-old Hill of Tara, the monastic site of Glendalough and Fanad Lighthouse in Donegal.

Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Our latest online film is highlighting the fact that, five years ago today, Ireland made history and voted to legalise same-sex marriage. While we may not be able to travel just now, this film will inspire people for their future visit – reminding viewers of our wonderful culture, stunning scenery and the sense of pride that makes Ireland such a special place to visit.”
