Melbourne Airport has recorded its highest monthly passenger traffic in three years following Australia’s ban on international travel during the pandemic.

The 2,706,962 travellers processed in January 2023 was more than double the same month in 2022 and the highest since January 2020.

A new post-pandemic high of 818,572 passengers passed through the international terminal.

Airport CEO Lorie Argus says the airport expects “to be back to around 80% of pre-pandemic numbers” by the end of this year.
