The Majorca Tourism Foundation has confirmed that they will be offering a new national aid package to all tourism and culture related sectors in order to kick-start recovery following the Covid pandemic.
The Consell de Majorca, through the Majorca Tourism Foundation, has announced new direct aid totalling 1,500,000 euros to self-employed professionals, crafts companies, dance schools, leisure facilities, and to tourist guides. Beneficiaries can claim grants up to 1,500 euros each.
In the first half of the year, Majorca Tourism Foundation paid 22,638,500 euros to 10,628 claimants, including restaurants, gyms, dance schools, wholesale distributors (eg markets), nightlife, culture, fairgrounds, events and spas.
Minister of Economic Promotion and Local Development, Jaume Alzamora highlights the importance of aid for sectors such as crafts, since “most markets and fairs have been paralyzed for a long time and artisan professionals have not been able to offer their products”. Alzamora states that there has consequentially been an impact on “the role that entities linked to the social economy have for economic diversification and the dissemination of solidarity and sustainable values”.
