London Airports Mark 2025 as Their ‘Busiest Year Ever’

2025 has seen London Airports Stansted and Heathrow achieve record year for passenger traffic.

Stansted and Heathrow have recorded 2025 as their ‘busiest year ever’ as passenger numbers rise following a strong demand for travel. Both airports reported a surge in passenger footfall with Stansted Airport’s passenger traffic surpassing their 30 million milestone for the first time. While London’s Heathrow welcomed over 84 million passengers in 2025.

The increased footfall and passenger increase comes after the additional new routes from air lines, seat capacity increases, and the growing demand for leisure and business trips.

London Stansted seen their highest demand over the festive period with passengers making the most of the choice of over 200 destinations available. Gareth Powell, Managing Director at Stansted said that, “It was a really successful year for London Stansted in 2025, the busiest year in our history as we welcomed a record-breaking 30 million passengers in a 12-month period for the very first time.”

Heathrow Airport also had a record-breaking December with an item in duty-free selling every 5.5 seconds. Heathrow’s CEO Thomas Woldbye said, “December’s record-breaking performance shows the strength of demand for Heathrow and the benefit to passengers of the great service our colleagues are providing.”

Both London airports are delighted with their successes. This highlights the increased demand of the aviation sector and both airports have recognised the need for investment for future growth in order to help them maintain their high standards of service.
