Local Travel Agents Plead with NI Executive to be “Up Front” About Holidays

Local travel agents are pleading with the NI Executive to be "up front" about holidays and release a reopening plan that includes dates so they can provide clarity to the customers over holiday bookings

Local travel agents are pleading with the NI Executive to be “up front” over the prospect of foreign holidays and release a reopening plan that includes dates.

Many customers have moved their pre-booked foreign holidays from 2020 to 2021, but without clarity from the Executive at Stormont, travel agents are unable to advise their clients whether their holidays will go ahead or not, and if not, arrange staff to help clients rebook.

Peter McMinn, Travel Solutions said: “From the outside it would appear that our elected representatives continue to fail us. If our health situation is different to the rest of the UK, or if we are positioning ourselves alongside the situation in the Republic, then be up front with us and at least we will know the reason why there is no specific timetable. Without openness we can only assume they are not up to the task”.

Sue Goodwin of Travellers Secrets said: “Please Executive can we have a plan – with dates. We understand if this has to be adjusted due to changing Covid circumstances.

“We have clients who moved their holidays from 2020 to 2021 who are currently supposed to be paying their balances and they need some indication of whether Summer 2021 is going to happen or not.”
