Little Progress in Dispute as Another Strike Day Beckons

Both sides appear to have made little progress in the dispute between Ryanair and pilots unions

No talks are as yet planned ahead of the next strike day by pilots at the airline this Friday, and that is bad news for intending travellers.

Although some common ground was apparently reached at a meeting last week, the company and the Irish Airlines Pilots Association/Forsa union are still apart on the main issues between them that led Dublin-based staff into the unprecedented walkout.

In a memo to pilots, Ryanair’s chief people officer Eddie Wilson wrote that if staff continued on the current course of striking “so be it”. The memo went on: “This matter will only be resolved through negotiations.”

In addition to the planned strikes by pilots directly employed by the airline on Friday, a further day of action is scheduled for July 24 as the summer travel season reaches its peak.
