Largest Nickelodeon Indoor Theme Park Coming to China

Viacom has announced a deal to debut Nickelodeon's first indoor theme park in Asia

The park at Mall of China in Chongqing will be the world’s largest Nickelodeon indoor theme park and work is already underway.

The park is slated to open in late 2020.

The company signed an agreement with Jiayuan Group, China Creation Group and Triple Five Group, developers of the mall.

It will feature more than a dozen Nickelodeon characters including SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Dora the Explorer across 29 rides and attractions.

“Creating immersive on-the-ground consumer experiences remains an important part of our business,” said Mark Whitehead, Viacom’s managing director, Asia Pacific..

“As we continue to grow the footprint of Nickelodeon theme parks, I am confident this will also open up new opportunities for the Nickelodeon brand and for our partners across multiple platforms in this important Chinese market.”

The most notable attraction planned is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles launch coaster, which is expected to break four world records for an indoor roller coaster ride.

It will have the longest track, the highest drop, the largest number of inversions and the fastest maximum speed.

The new Mall of China is located a short drive from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport and is expected to attract up to 30 million shoppers a year.

The indoor theme park will cover an area of about 28,000 square metres.
