Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ Commitment to Lanzarote Recognised by Minister

The Minister of Tourism for Lanzarote has presented Jet2.com and Jet2holidays with an award for Sustainability & Marketing of the Island

Angel Dominguez, the Minister of Tourism for Lanzarote, presented the award to Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, in recognition of the company’s continued commitment to Lanzarote.

Since launching operations to Lanzarote, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has increased capacity every single year and today is the UK’s biggest tour operator to the island – as it is to Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria – the company’s other destinations in the Canary Islands. This Winter, the leading leisure airline and package holiday specialist has over 370,000 seats on sale to Lanzarote, and Summer 20 will see the company operate its biggest ever summer programme to the island with over 550,000 seats on sale.

Whilst other airlines and tour operators have moved capacity from Lanzarote, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has continued to fly more and more holidaymakers to the island, filling hotels and boosting the local economy. In addition, the company has created year-round jobs through the employment of customer helpers in airports and resorts, and well as colleagues operating the popular Free Resort Flight Check-in service, which allows Jet2holidays customers to check-in for their flight at their hotel.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, was in Lanzarote to talk to hoteliers and the industry about the company’s continued commitment to the island. Speaking after the presentation he said: “I am extremely proud to accept this prestigious award from the Minister of Tourism for Lanzarote. The accolade recognises our successful operation in Lanzarote and reflects our absolute commitment to bringing more and more holidaymakers to this fantastic destination. We have always focused steadfastly on promoting Lanzarote as a wonderful year-round destination for holidaymakers, and this award makes us more determined to continue that.”

Angel Vazquez, Minister of Tourism said: “We’d like to express our gratitude to Jet2.com and Jet2holidays for their continued support of the island of Lanzarote by increasing flight connections and contracts with hotels and services. We thank them again for this cooperation and encourage the Group to continue their support to the island.”

Hector Fernández, Managing Director Lanzarote Tourism, said: “We recognise Jet2.com and Jet2holidays as a very valued partner and renew our yearly marketing agreements, whose results are a great success to Lanzarote.”
