For the first time in over 500 years, the iconic London beefeaters are facing redundancy

The iconic London beefeaters are facing redundancy for the first time in their 500 year history due to the impact of Covid-19 on the tourism industry.

Sky News has reported that Historic Royal Palaces (HRP), which runs the Tower of London – the beefeaters’ home – has seen its income fall by £98m this year, leaving the charity with ‘no choice but to reduce payroll costs’.

Chief Executive John Barnes said: “We are heartbroken that it has come to this.”
