Iceland’s Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is currently closed, following a further volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula.
In a statement, the Blue Lagoon highlighted, “Over the past months, we have been reminded of the powers of nature and how they inevitably influence us all. During this time of seismic activity, we have had to temporarily close our operations but have remained in close contact with Icelandic authorities and acted in accordance with set precautions and measures in the area.”
“Due to a volcanic eruption that commenced in Sundhnúksgígar on May 29, we took the precautionary measure of evacuating and temporarily close all our operational units today. Further updates and information will be provided here as they become available.”
Currently, the geothermal spa is set to remain shut until the 31 of May 2024. The premises will be re-evaluated on 31 of May to ensure it is safe for tourists to visit.
