Hotel Lancaster Celebrate Sustainable NFT Success

Hotel Lancaster is delighted to announce that sales of its new Sustainable NFTs have generated sponsorship for the recovery of 15,000 kgs of plastic waste in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Hotel Lancaster, a luxury hotel in Paris, is delighted to announce that sales of its new Sustainable NFTs have generated sponsorship for the recovery of 15,000 kgs of plastic waste in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The announcement comes following the successful launch of its partnership with Green Mining, where the reverse logistics start-up provided recycling data to embed into a collection of Hotel Lancaster NFTs, each of which is available to buy and linked to a unique luxury experience in one of Paris’s finest hotels.

Half the NFTs in the collection have sold since it launched a little over a week ago on Plastiks, a marketplace that uses smart contract NFTs to enhance the commercial value of recovered waste plastic.

Each NFT in the range – initially restricted to 15 to go on sale on 1 June 2022 – will be associated to a hotel room. Alongside the artwork of the hotel room the guest will be staying in, the NFT will contain the Plastic Recovery Guarantee that proves the plastic has been removed from the environment in Brazil.

It marks the first time a hotel is using utility NFT technology to engage with travelers, giving environmentally conscious guests proof that 1 ton of plastic has been recovered and creating brand connection and loyalty though a range of additional benefits, including VIP Club Membership.

The integration of Plastic Recovery Guarantees in room-booking is part of the Hotel Lancaster’s strategy to reduce its environmental impact. So far it has taken steps to remove single use beauty product containers, developed a locally sourced, organic menu in its restaurant, removed paper products and minimised water usage throughout the Hotel.

With the Plastiks Sustainability Dashboard, anyone investing in NFTs can showcase their commitment to plastic reduction through their investment in plastic recovery guarantees and, because Plastiks operates on the carbon-neutral blockchain ecosystem of Celo, those buying and selling NFTs on Plastiks are not only contributing to plastic reduction but also doing it in a carbon conscious way.

Lydérick Jadaud, Hotel Director at Hotel Lancaster said: “We are delighted with the uptake of our Sustainable NFTs, the strong demand shows how important environmental concerns are to our guests.

Working with Plastiks and Green Mining is a source of pride for the hotel and its guests, as we all come together to help improve the environment by directly funding the removal of plastic waste from the delicate Brazilian environment and improving the lives of the workers in the project.”

André Vanyi-Robin, CEO of Plastiks said: “We are convinced that technology can help bring the world together to help tackle some of our largest environmental challenges. I am delighted that Plastiks has connected a luxury hotel and its guests in Paris with a startup and it waste picking employees in Brazil to help tackle plastic waste. This progress it what the Plastiks platform is all about.”

Plastiks launched in early 2022 as the world’s first utility NFT dedicated to revolutionising the fight against plastic waste and is powered by Nozama, the London-based global sustainability technology company.
