Holland America Line Ship Gets Major Facelift

The 1964-guest ship departed Fort Lauderdale as it prepares to reposition for its Mediterranean season

Holland America Line ship Oosterdam has set sail following a two-week dry dock in the Bahamas. The 1964-guest ship departed Fort Lauderdale as it prepares to reposition for its Mediterranean season.

During its dry dock, a range of enhancements took place, including interior design upgrades to several public areas, a new Effy jewellery retail space and an expanded casino. Various public areas received new furniture and additional upgrades were made to the Crow’s Nest bar and lounge; Greenhouse Spa & Salon; the Photo Gallery and Photo Studio; and the suite-exclusive Neptune Lounge.

More than 20,000 square meters (approximately 215,000 square feet) of new carpet was installed in all suites, verandah staterooms and numerous public areas, including the Atrium, Photo Gallery and Photo Studio, Rolling Stone Lounge and Greenhouse Spa & Salon.

Select in-stateroom bathrooms received full renovations and several balcony staterooms have new deck furniture. The Rolling Stone Lounge was fully upgraded with an enhanced bar and new carpet, furnishings, LED lighting and flooring.

The Lido Market received a refresh, with new tiles and countertops. In addition, both the Lido Market and Canaletto now have new seating upholstery.

The Sea View aft pool has new luxury spa hot tubs surrounded by fresh teak decking. Both the Sea View and Lido pools received new resin coating.

Oosterdam’s Greenhouse Spa & Salon now features a new sauna and a new couple’s massage therapy room. The Thermal Suite was rebuilt with a Laconium thermal room, steam room and experiential rain shower, and The Relaxation Lounge was refreshed with a beverage counter and updated lounge seating layout.

In the Salon, guests will see an expansion that includes new manicure stations and state-of-the-art pedicure chairs. Work was completed to make the spa and salon areas more accessible for guests with disabilities, and new gym equipment and flooring was installed in the Fitness Centre.

Oosterdam’s Crow’s Nest includes a refreshed Arts Studio, a dedicated Games Room and a Puzzle area. The space features new furniture for each area, a board game display case and updated signage to guide guests through the redesigned Crow’s Nest.

Oosterdam will spend the next seven months sailing around the Mediterranean, visiting ports in countries such as Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Egypt, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean in November, returning to South America and Antarctica.
