With the recent relaxation of travel restrictions making the headlines lately —Northern Ireland Travel News spoke with Damian Murphy from ANITA to see if these relaxations had lead to an increase in bookings.

“Travel is once again making the headlines – this time in a more positive way. There is no doubt the relaxing in travel testing has brought about a renewed interest in travel and people are now more willing to get something booked. The current trend is seeing people booking for late spring and beyond which is helping get confidence back to the market but we are far from being out of the woods. We are still being faced with quite a few cancellations-some at very short notice – and countries continue to make changes to their entry requirements at very short notice confusing even the most seasoned traveller.”

He continued, “Having said that we now have a real sense of hope that summer 2022 will see our industry return to some sort of normality and talks with the Executive have been going on for quite a while now about a second support package. Time however is critical and the Economy Minister must act now to help us through to that summer period- help us to save jobs and indeed businesses- unfortunately it is already too late for some”
