Historic Amsterdam Village Introduces New Tourist Levy

The small 'living museum' village reportedly welcomed around 2.6 million tourists in 2024

Visitors hoping to wander around one of Amsterdams historic villages will now have to pay a tourist levy – one that could end up saving them money in the long run!

Famed for its windmills and tulip fields, the village of Zaanse Schans, just north of Amsterdam, is hoping that the new tourist fee will help reduce visitor footfall.

The charge will come info effect from Spring 2026.

For a fee of £15.25 (€17.50), visitors will receive a pre-booked ticket giving them access to the local museum and windmill interiors – which currently individually charge for entry.

The ‘living museum’ village of Zaanse Schans is a popular day trip for tourists visiting Amsterdam welcoming around 2.6 million tourists in 2024.

Money raised from the new fee in will reportedly be spent on windmill maintenance and infrastructure upgrades, including parking and toilets.
