Environmentalist group threaten drone protest at London Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Pause, environmentalist group have made plans for a protest to take place at London Heathrow airport from 3am on 13 September.

The protest is said to use drones in the airspace of Heathrow Airport with an anticipated outcome of grounded flights.

“It is our understanding the airport’s authorities will respond by grounding all flights. Drones will not be flown in flight paths and there will be no risk of harm to anyone,” a spokesperson for the group said.

Laurence Taylor, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Met Police said the force would do “everything in its power” to prevent any such “criminal activity”.

“Heathrow Airport is part of our national infrastructure, and we will not allow the illegal activity of protestors to cause misery to thousands of air travellers,” he said.

Heathrow Pause are due to meet with the police on Friday to discuss their plans. There are no confirmed details of disruption and travel is set to continue as scheduled at this time.
