Join WWT Castle Espie for a quacking family day out as a Wetland Detective 6 th -16 th April, 11 – 1pm and 2 – 4pm each day. Explore, discover, put your senses to the test to succeed and complete the trail this Easter.

Investigate underwater mysteries, follow tracks to work out who’s been creeping around at night. Use everything from feathers to bird calls to reveal the wildlife secrets only a true Wetland Detective knows.

Families can put their new found detective skills to the test and discover more about the wonderful wetlands with daily activities such as pond dipping, mini-beast hunting and bird watching.

The centre has recently reopened its doors closed in October 2022, following The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) guidelines, and has worked in partnership with DAERA to take measures to protect the birds at the centre. In order to continue to protect the birds in their care, the resident collection bird section of the site will be temporarily closed with a new visitor path providing access to the rest of the reserve site. Visitors can still see some of the wetland superstars from around the world from the Kingfisher café.

Paul Stewart, Centre Manager at WWT Castle Espie said: “Easter is the perfect time to spot all the new life at our centre, from budding trees to fluffy ducklings. Our detective trails will excite and inspire, helping everyone to feel closer to nature and to engage with the wonders of our wetland. Whilst our resident collection bird section remains temporarily closed, they can still be viewed our from our Kingfisher Café. There is still lots to do and see and we look forward to welcoming visitors to WWT Castle Espie this Easter.”
