As the Glider reaches its first year of operation, passenger numbers have jumped 30% in areas of Belfast. This year has seen the highest number of commuters using public transport in Northern Ireland for twenty years with 84.5 million passenger journeys recorded during the last financial year.
After a £90 million investment for infrastructure in preparation for the Glider service, Translink have reported that the response has been very positive. Translink said: “Over 2 million additional Glider passenger journeys were made in comparison to previous bus journeys taken along the route – an increase of over 30% – which means around 1.67 million fewer car journeys, reducing congestion and enhancing city air quality.”
