A general strike in Greece has been called in response to the recent rail disaster.

The strike has seen flights grounded, ferries left in port, hospitals running with emergency staff, public transport services cancelled and services extensively disrupted.

Protests have also been planned in cities across the country as unions rally behind railway works associations.

The head-on train collision in northern Greece happened on February 28 and left 57 people dead and dozens injured.
