The International Air Transport Association (IATA) says the post-pandemic recovery momentum continued throughout June for global air travel markets.

Total traffic in June 2023 (in revenue passenger kilometres) rose 31% compared to June 2022 meaning overall, global air travel is now at 94.2% of pre-Covid levels.

For the first half of 2023, total traffic is up 47.2% year on year, while international traffic climbed 33.7% versus June 2022.

Passenger traffic has now reached an overall 88.2% of pre-pandemic June 2019 levels.

Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General said: “The northern summer travel season got off to a strong start with double-digit demand growth and average load factors topping 84%.

“Planes are full which is good news for airlines, local economies, and travel and tourism dependent jobs.

“All benefit from the industry’s ongoing recovery.”
