With Christmas ‘cancelled’ due to pandemic restrictions last year, and many spending the holidays apart from their loved ones, G Adventures is helping travellers make this upcoming festive season extra-special with the launch of its first Christmas market tours in Europe. A sure way to get in the holiday spirit, the new tours will visit some of Central Europe’s most famous markets, including Hellbrunner Christmas Market in Salzburg, home to over 700 beautifully-decorated Christmas trees, and Germany’s Nuremberg market, celebrated as one of the oldest markets in the world.
With four departures running from late November through to the end of December, the week-long tours will take travellers on a journey from Berlin to Vienna, or vice versa, highlighting the winter magic Germany and Austria have to offer. Stopping in Salzburg, Munich and Nuremberg along the way, travellers will sip on mulled wine, marvel at beautiful light displays, explore medieval sites, visit cosy Christmas markets and tuck into a Bratwurst and Currywurst tasting.
“Christmas 2020 was incredibly tough, with COVID restrictions meaning many families and friends were unable to spend the holiday season together. We’re incredibly excited to be launching these new festive tours, which will help travellers recapture the magic of Christmas, and celebrate with loved ones and new friends,” says Brian Young, managing director at G Adventures.
“We know that many British travellers are opting for short haul trips in 2020 and, with Germany and Austria both on the UK’s green list, it’s easier than ever for them to hop over and enjoy the festive magic in some of Europe’s most beautiful and famous Christmas markets,” Young continues.
Christmas in Central Europe – Berlin to Vienna – Getting in the holiday spirit, this week-long tour will begin in Berlin, where travellers will visit the city’s famous sites, including the Berlin Wall Memorial, Brandenburg Gate and the historical Museum Island before tucking into tasty Bratwurst and searching for souvenirs at the Christmas markets in Gendarmenmarkt square. Taking a train to Nuremberg, travellers will try Nuremberg Lebkuchen, traditional German cake that is similar to gingerbread, before wandering through the fairytale-like stalls and old-fashioned carousels. In Salzburg, historic squares and a climb to Hohensalzburg Castle is on the agenda, as well as a stop at the conifer-packed Hellbrunner Christmas market. Days in Vienna will be spent enjoying coffee and cake in the famous Viennese coffee houses, sipping warm mugs of Glühwein and visiting the city’s famous landmarks such as The Vienna State Opera House or the viewpoint from the top of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, offering unparalleled views over the city, where travellers can soak up all the festive magic. The seven-day trip starts from £1,099 per person* and can also be taken in reverse with the Christmas in Central Europe – Vienna to Berlin tour for £1,149 per person.
Both tours are part of G Adventures’ new Travel-Ready programme, which requires all travellers to be either fully vaccinated or have a negative PCR test within 96 hours prior to day one of their tour.
