From 3 June 2022, Pittsburgh will be even more accessible to holidaymakers from the UK & Ireland following the reinstatement of the non-stop service from London Heathrow (LHR) to Pittsburgh (PIT) with British Airways. Operating four times weekly aboard Boeing 787-8. These flights departing London on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday arriving in Pittsburgh in just under eight hours.

Pittsburgh is in western Pennsylvania where three rivers meet, and golden bridges line the banks’ parks, trails and green landscape. Pittsburgh is ideal for those travellers looking for a mid-sized city break, family-holiday or launchpad for an epic eastern road-trip of the USA. Visitors will enjoy the wide-open spaces, 24-miles of riverfront trails, cultural festivals and events, seemingly endless cultural museums and attractions, thriving culinary scene and a variety of hotel accommodation options in a welcoming destination resonating with true Americana.

Earlier this year, VisitPITTSBURGH launched a new marketing campaign to welcome back international travellers and to showcase its one-of-a-kind experiences, events and attractions that can only be found in Pittsburgh. ‘Only in Pittsburgh’ focuses on highlighting the diverse cultural, culinary, and sporting activities that are unique to the steel city.

The campaign video features insights and city secrets from real Pittsburghers, sharing their favourite experiences, including the seven-story Andy Warhol Museum – the largest museum dedicated to a single artist in North America; the iconic Senator John Heinz History Centre with an entire floor dedicated to the 57 varieties, and two historical inclines – one of which is the oldest continually operating in America. The video welcomes back international travellers and encourages them to explore the city.

Known as the “City of Bridges,” Pittsburgh boasts 446 of them and is one of the cities with the most bridges globally, criss-crossing three rivers that confluence at the city’s iconic Point State Park. For avid cyclists, the city offers a 150-mile bucket list bike trail connecting Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C., along a disused canal towpath, in addition to 165 parks and 24 miles of riverfront trails in the city centre.

For arts and culture enthusiasts, Pittsburgh is home to two of the world’s largest exhibitions, including the 20,000-sq-ft dinosaur exhibit at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History – also the official home to the most famous dinosaur skeleton, Dippy; the world’s largest robotics exhibition at the Carnegie Science Centre – Roboworld; and on the North Side, the National Aviary – the only independent, indoor, non-profit zoo in America dedicated to birds with over 150 species. Downtown, Pittsburgh’s Cultural District features nine theatres in just one square mile showing over 1,500 shows annually.

In culinary firsts, the iconic Primanti Bros. sandwich – traditionally a lunchtime snack for the steel mill workers – was born in Pittsburgh and consists of deli meat, cheese, fries, coleslaw, and tomatoes stacked between two thick slices of Italian bread, in addition to Pittsburgh’s first distillery since prohibition, Wigle Whiskey. Named after one of the pioneering distillers, Wigle produces Organic Straight Rye Whiskeys, Bourbons, Dutch Style Gins, Rum and Bitters
