Holidaymakers have shrugged off Brexit to stick with Europe as their favourite holiday destination this year.
The top five getaways for Belfast travellers are all European according to newly reported statistics by Barrhead Travel.
The Canary Islands of Tenerife and Lanzarote rank 1 and 4 respectively as a must-visit family oasis – with ever-popular Majorca, Faro and Alicante in the top five. Further afield, New York, Orlando and Dubai are all in the top ten.
The travel industry as a whole had unanswered questions in the build-up to the original March 29 exit date – especially over visas and passports.
Barrhead Travel Belfast today reported they expect to see a surge in late getaways and summer holidays after the announcement of the Brexit delay.
Karen Breen, Sales Director at Barrhead Travel said: “With last week’s confirmation from the EU that visas for short stays would not be required and the latest extension on Brexit there is definitely a lot more optimism – and we’re seeing momentum starting to build as the public turn their attention to finalising their holiday plans.
“Travellers will be able to head to Europe this summer with the certainty that nothing is changing in the short-term.
“It’s not surprising to see that Europe still dominates our top ten. From the diversity that the Canary Islands offer to Majorca, it’s little wonder that Europe is the top choice for our customers.
“Holidaymakers in Belfast clearly still love Europe and this year we have some really competitive pricing for our customers.”
