Essential Travel Only to Spain

The FCO updated its advice, including all but essential travel to Spain, Jamaica, Argentina and Poland

The current travel advice on the FCO website reads: “Spain declared a state of emergency on 14 March, which introduces a series of measures including significant restrictions on movement throughout the country in response to the coronavirus outbreak.”

Public gatherings are banned with most shops will be closed with the exception of shops selling essentials and pharmacies. Travel services will be restricted and many other businesses and all schools and universities are closed. All citizens have been told to stay at home unless there is an absolute necessity, including to buy food or other essential items, to go to hospital or other health centres, to go to work (if home-working is not an option), or to carry out caring or similar duties or in case of genuine need.

UK nationals who are currently visiting in Spain are advised to follow the advice of local authorities, the FCO said.

Anyone who has plans to visit Spain within the next few days or coming weeks, should contact their local travel provider.
