Duty Free Could be Introduced at UK Airports

The Irish government has proposed plans to introduce duty free on UK trips to help airports recover

The Irish government is considering reintroducing duty free to trips to UK airports from January 1, 2021 to aid airports and ports in their recovery from the Covid crisis.

Ireland abolished duty free sales to the UK 21 years ago as being incompatible with the EU Single Market but with the UK set to officially leave the EU at the end of this year, airports have now identified duty free to the UK as a critical source of revenue generation. Ports also strongly favour the move.
