Darren Clarke Lends a Hand to Promote Golf in Northern Ireland

To kick-start the countdown to The 148th Open at Royal Portrush, Tourism Ireland in GB has teamed up with Sky Sports Golf, in its latest campaign to promote our world-class golf

The campaign includes a series of four short videos voiced by Darren Clarke, which will run on the Sky Sports website; the videos will also be promoted on the Sky Advance catch-up platform. In the videos, viewers will see Darren describe the superb golf in Northern Ireland, his pride in the fact that The 148th Open will return here in July and why the welcome in Northern Ireland for overseas visitors is second to none!

The campaign features a competition to win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to The Open for four people, as well as four articles about Northern Ireland on the Sky Sports website. The videos and competition will be promoted through ads on the Sky Sports website and on the social channels of Sky Sports – reaching an estimated 4.2 million golf enthusiasts across GB.

The promotion with Sky Sports Golf has been designed to showcase Northern Ireland as a superb golf and holiday destination and to encourage GB golfers attending The Open to extend their stay in Northern Ireland. This is just one element of Tourism Ireland’s extensive programme of promotional activity to capitalise on The 148th Open at Royal Portrush for overseas tourism to Northern Ireland this year.

“Tourism Ireland is delighted to partner with Sky Sports Golf, to create these engaging films, voiced by Darren Clarke, to highlight our world-class golf,” said Julie Wakely, Tourism Ireland’s Head of Great Britain. “This is just one element of Tourism Ireland’s extensive programme of promotions to mark The Open returning to Northern Ireland this year, for the first time in 68 years. Our message is that Northern Ireland is a golfer’s paradise, with superb links and parkland courses in some spectacular locations.”

Great Britain is an important market for tourism to Northern Ireland. It delivers 64% of all overseas visitors and around 56% of all overseas tourism revenue.
