Tropical Cyclone Freddy has forced the closure of Mauritius’s international airport causing flight disruption from Heathrow to the island

Tropical Cyclone Freddy has forced the closure of Mauritius’s international airport causing flight disruption from Heathrow to the Indian Ocean island.

Air Mauritius has cancelled at least 18 flights, including a number of services due to have flown between the island and Heathrow from Sunday through to Tuesday.

In an updated statement, the UK Foreign Office said: “You should remain vigilant and follow the advice of local authorities.

“Cyclones can cause extensive damage to property. There is a well-structured system of phased warnings. During a cyclone you are not allowed to leave your accommodation and car insurance policies often cease to be valid.”
