Cruise Ships Meet – ‘Four Freds in Funchal’ Itineraries

Following on from the success of its 'Four Ships in Bergen' event in Summer 2015 (pictured), Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has announced that its fleet of four ocean ships – Balmoral, Braemar, Boudicca and Black Watch – will be reuniting once again, this time in Funchal, Madeira on Saturday, April 4, 2020

Fred. Olsen’s third fleet get-together in Spring 2020 on the stunning ‘Garden Island’ of Madeira will be packed full of lively celebrations and festivities, on four specially-themed cruise itineraries, to go on general sale today, February 22, 2018.

To make these sailings even more enticing, Fred. Olsen is offering free gratuities for the Cabin Stewardess and Waiter, on all new bookings made on the four applicable itineraries up to April 30, 2018 inclusive – so that guests can relax with complete peace of mind, knowing that their holiday is even better value, with almost everything covered!

Mike Rodwell, Managing Director of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said: “In July 2015, we brought our four ships together for the very first time in Bergen, Norway, and it was one of the most celebrated events that we have held at Fred. Olsen since our inception in 1848. To mark our milestone 170th anniversary in 2018, we will be celebrating our ‘Captains in Cádiz’ event in the historic Spanish city of Cádiz this autumn – so-called because the ships’ Captains will be leading on many of the day’s activities.

“To give Fred. Olsen guests a further chance to take part in a fun and lively celebration across the fleet, we have now launched the new ‘Four Fred.s in Funchal’ itineraries, which will be visiting a port that constantly rates as one of the most popular with our guests, and we know that our four ships berthed together will be a truly amazing sight to behold!”

During Fred. Olsen’s ‘Four. Fred.’s in Funchal’ celebration, guests can expect to be treated to a host of activities and entertainment, both on board and ashore, including: a welcome ceremony and local performances; fantastic live music; delicious, specially-prepared menus; the opportunity to explore the whole fleet; and fun competitions between the guests and crews of each ship.

There will also be the chance to explore Madeira’s cultural and historic capital (the centre is just a short walk from the port), in addition to the string of enticing ports that make up these four great itineraries.

The four Fred. Olsen ships will be deployed on four different itineraries around the world, and will converge in Funchal on Saturday, April 4, 2020 for a lively programme of events:

  • Black Watch’s 14-night W2009 ‘Azores & Madeira’ cruise (adult-only), ex-Liverpool on March 26, 2020
  • Braemar’s 12-night M2007 ‘Closer Spain & Portugal with Madeira’ cruise, ex-Southampton on March 28, 2020
  • Boudicca’s 19-night D2008 ‘Cape Verde Islands’ cruise (adult-only), ex-Dover on March 29, 2020
  • Balmoral’s 16-night L2003 ‘Canary Islands’ cruise (adult-only), ex-Newcastle on March 29, 2020

Guests can choose to be a part of Fred. Olsen history, as the four ocean-going vessels coordinate their arrival into the charming capital of Funchal, framed by the backdrop of azure Atlantic waters and the lush green of the Madeiran hills. Located just off the coast of Africa, Madeira has a timeless, ‘Old World’ charm. Named after the forests of fennel that grow wild here, Funchal is enhanced by a warm, subtropical climate, which fills it with the year-round colours and perfumes of flowers and fruit. The city was a firm favourite of Sir Winston Churchill, and his praise of the island and its people has ensured that British visitors are sure to receive a warm welcome from the locals!
