“Closing All UK Travel Corridors Effectively Closes our Business” – ANITA

Industry body ANITA has blasted the UK government's decision to close all travel corridors saying it "effectively closes our business"

Industry body ANITA (Association of Northern Ireland Travel Agents) has blasted the UK government’s decision to close all travel corridors saying it “effectively closes our business” and has brought fresh calls for a re-look at a support package for the travel industry.

Damian Murphy, Chairperson of ANITA commented: “The latest decision to close allUK travel corridors has effectively closed us for business. The decision is the the correct one for now but it makes the need to plan for future travel and how to save it all the more important.

“We are calling on the UK government to lead the way on setting international standards which will help us plan a roadmap back to travel. The roll out of the vaccination programme will be a big help but on its own it is unlikely to be a silver bullet.

“We also call on the Northern Ireland executive to re-look at any financial package to be offered to our industry as the curtailment on travel looks like lasting longer than anyone first anticipated.”
