City Cruises Celebrates a Bumper 2022 as UK Tourism Sector Bounces Back

City Cruises, the leading sightseeing operator on the River Thames, The River Ouse in York and at Poole Quay is celebrating a bumper 2022, following two years of pandemic restrictions.

City Cruises which offer a variety of experiences, such as sightseeing tours along iconic waterways, special event cruises, and dining cruises has enjoyed a year of achievements across its’ three UK sailing points.

In London, City Cruises had a record-breaking year for dining, with over 100,000 passengers carried onboard. The company also saw a great turnout for its Platinum Jubilee celebrations, with over 5,000 passengers joining in the festivities. The summer weather brought a boost in sightseeing, with over 50,000 cold beers enjoyed onboard as passengers enjoyed the iconic London sights. 2022 also saw the company introduce new products, such as the Murder Mystery Cruise, which ran on over 15 dates with plans to expand further for 2023. City Cruises ended the 2022 year on a high with the return of the New Year’s Eve fireworks, boasting the best vantage point from the River Thames for the iconic midnight display.

In Poole, City Cruises saw a number of achievements in terms of professional development, with several staff members obtaining their Boatmasters Licence and Power Boat Level 2. The company welcomed the Purbeck Pride into the boat fleet, introduced a new Fish and Chips Cruise and a second daily sailing to Swanage. As part of the Poole Maritime Lights Festival, City Cruises also introduced a Christmas Lights Cruise and saw a significant increase in private charters, up over 200% compared to 2019.

In 2022, York also had a record year with a significant number of recognitions for its business efforts, winning the Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Business of the Year Award at the York Press Business Awards and the Best Tour of York Award at the Little Vikings Awards. Featured on both ITV and the BBC, City Cruises experienced national TV exposure as well as being chosen as a filming location for a Netflix drama due to be released in 2023. In 2022, City Cruises York welcomed four new skippers to the team, welcomed the Kyiv City Ballet onboard and were accredited by the Good Business Charter.
