Churchill’s Gricha Vineyard House Wins Big at Latest Tourism Awards

Churchill’s Gricha Vineyard House has been named as the top accommodation in Porto and Douro region by the ‘Best of Wine Tourism’ awards 2022

Churchill’s Gricha Vineyard House has been named as the top accommodation in Porto and Douro region by the ‘Best of Wine Tourism’ awards 2022. The regional award was given by the Great Wine Capitals – a network that connects ten major world wine regions and annually distinguishes the network’s best projects.

The Best Of Wine Tourism awards celebrate innovation and excellence in wine tourism throughout the greatest wine regions in the world and provide an opportunity for the wineries and wine tourism businesses in each region to gain exposure and recognition for their commitment to presenting leading wine tourism options, while giving visitors a one-stop list of the best places to experience.

In the hotly-contended accommodation category, Great Wine Capital considers aspects like style and quality, whether the accommodation is chain-affiliated or independent, location, rates, wider amenities, and other awards won.

“We are truly honoured for this amazing recognition of our wine tourism venture and team at Gricha,” says Ben Himowitz, Churchill’s Director of Business Development. “Churchill’s is a family business, so we always strive for our guests to have an intimate experience, as if our winemakers have opened the doors to their home.”

With just four luxury bedrooms tucked into a tastefully remodeled 19th century farmhouse on Churchill’s legendary 50-hectare vineyard, Gricha Vineyard House offers guests access to an intimate and personal experience of life on a working Douro winery.

“We welcome guests to feel the pace and simplicity of life amongst the vines, learn about viticulture and winemaking in personalised tours and tastings, and enjoy Churchill’s award–winning wines while relaxing by the infinity pool or gazing out at the Douro Valley from our panoramic terrace.”, explains Ana Pinho, Churchill’s Head of Communications. “And we also offer experiences for visitors who want to come only for the day, with wine tastings of Churchill’s port and Douro wines, tours of the Vineyard and winery, and rustic lunches in our famous orange grove looking out over the river and valley, a perfect way to spend a day in the Douro.”
