The Spanish region of Catalonia has announced that they are set to lift their nighttime curfew on Friday 21 January.

A curfew between the hours of 1am until 6am was introduced on Christmas Eve, as Europe faced the rapid surge in the Omicron Variant.

While health experts have voiced concerns over the easing of curfew restrictions as case numbers rise. The regional government reasons that Omicron’s hospitalisation rate is significantly lower than the previous strains of the Covid-19 Virus.

Meanwhile in the region, social gatherings remain limited to 10 people while restaurants and bars remain open at 50% capacity.

Catalan health chief, Josep Maria Argimon stated that “In recent days we have been slowing down (cases), although not a great pace.”
