It has been reported that the French Government made the decision on Wednesday(28 December) to halt transit through France for Britons as the UK is now declared a “3rd Country”.

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle, the main passage from Britain to France, warned travellers on twitter and their website of the decision which stops British citizens transiting through France by car.

Eurotunnel advised travellers on twitter by saying:

“URGENT UPDATE FOR BRITISH RESIDENTS IN EU: Following a French Government decision, on 28/12/2021, unless they hold French residency, British citizens are now considered 3rd country citizens and can no longer transit France by road to reach their country of residence in the EU.”

France had imposed restrictions on UK residents from 18 December as Omicron cases surged in the UK. The restrictions call for all travellers to have “complexing reasons” to enter the country.

P&O ferries also took to twitter to highlight the latest decision to passengers.

Currently, the French Government have not issued an official announcement surrounding the reported changes.
