British Airways Announces Raft of Upgrades in New £750 Million Project

British Airways have announced a new £750 million upgrade on information technology, including an overhaul of its website in what CEO Sean Doyle calls "the most significant transformation in our history"

British Airways will spend £750 million on information technology improvements including an overhaul of its website.

The airline will also release a new mobile app and upgrade its digital systems.

The £750 million will be spent over the next three years, and customers will begin to see improvements by the end of 2024.

Sean Doyle, Chief Executive Officer said: “It’s the most significant transformation in our history.”

The carrier also plans to invest in its fleet with new seats for short-haul flights and upgrade its lounges following a record year of profits for parent company IAG.

New Club Europe seats will see the return of a bespoke leather tray that sits between the aisle and window seat. All seats will be fitted with USB-A and USB-C charging ports.

A new First suite will debut at the end of 2025 or early 2026 as part of its A380 aircraft refurbishments.

The airline is also investing in a new lounge space in Dubai, as well as previously announced refreshes for Lagos, Seattle, Heathrow and Edinburgh.

From April 3, the airline’s Executive Club Members will start to be able to send messages free of charge on a single device using the airline’s WiFi – whatever cabin they’re travelling in. It will include services such as WhatsApp, iMessage, Facebook Messenger and Teams Chat – but for text only, without images, videos or attachments.

The carrier also plans to roll out new first-class training and a refresher for all its staff.
