Border Force Strikes “Have a Detrimental Effect on How Travellers View the Travel Industry” – Says Advantage

"Ongoing rail and border force strikes continues to have a detrimental effect on how travellers view the travel industry and the plans they make" - Advantage Travel

UK Border Force staff in The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) Union are staging industrial action from Friday 17th February 2023 until 7am on Monday 20th February, which will directly impact several maritime ports and the Coquelles Channel Tunnel Terminal.

Speaking about the impact the strike action will have on the travel industry, Julia Lo Bue-Said, CEO of The Advantage Travel Partnership, said: “The strike action proposed this week and the ongoing disruption to travel in the UK with ongoing rail and border force strikes continues to have a detrimental effect on how travellers view the travel industry and the plans they make. In particular corporate travellers are no longer reliant on the rail networks to plan for meetings and are instead getting in their cars, planes or holding virtual meetings as required.

“For anyone that will be impacted by the planned border force strikes, our advice is prepare as much as possible for longer wait times, use e-gates where possible and check airport and port websites before travelling to see if the strikes will affect their journeys. We’re hopeful that recent strikes have shown that the disruption to inbound travel, where passports are checked at immigrant, has been minimal but it doesn’t stop people from worrying and getting anxious.
“If you have booked through a travel agent, we would recommend getting in contact with them as they will have the most up to date advice and information for your travel. We’re hoping that contingency measures put in place will avoid unnecessary disruption for travellers and that the majority will not experience delays.”
