Belfast International Airport in Shock Sale!

French company Vinci Airports has just agreed to purchase interests in Airports Worldwide from Canadian-based investment company OMERS in a deal which will see Belfast International Airport change hands once again

The deal will see Vinci Airports acquire a 100 per cent stake in Belfast International, which welcomed 5.8 million passengers in 2017.

Vinci Airports is acquiring nine new airports in total (two freehold properties, three concessions, four management contracts) and three partial management contracts following acquisition of the airport portfolio held by Airports Worldwide.

The deal will mean that Vinci Airports – which has 36 facilities across the worlds in countries such as Portugal, Cambodia, Japan and France – will expand it’s network to 45 airports in 11 countries and marks a strategic move into the USA, the world’s largest air transport market, while also bolsters its presence in Europe and Central America.

Ralph Berg, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Infrastructure at OMERS Private Markets, said: “We have focused our efforts on positioning the asset for long-term success, and are very proud of the value we have created with this investment for OMERS members. We wish the AWW team and Vinci all the best, as the company takes this next step in its evolution.”

The deal is expected to close later in 2018.
