Batten Down the Hatches – Travel Disruption as Storm Ali Arrives

Northern Ireland is braced for the first big storm of the season with an amber warning issued for high winds and heavy showers throughout today

The Met Office warned: “Strong winds affecting Northern Ireland early in the day will continue to strengthen through the morning.

“Road, rail, air, and ferry services are likely to be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations a possibility. Roads and bridges may close, with fallen trees expected.

“The public is also advised to take care near to the coastline, with injuries from large waves and beach material being thrown onto the seafront.”

The Stena Line 7.30am and 11.30am Belfast-Cairnryan sailings have been cancelled.

There are no reported flight cancellations at Belfast City Airport or Belfast International, but passengers are advised to check with individual airlines for a flight status update.

More than 40 flights in and out of Dublin Airport have been cancelled this morning as airlines take precaution against Storm Ali.

The Irish weather service Met Éireann reissued a Status Orange weather warning this morning, warning of gusts in excess of 130km/h possible in coastal regions.

Aer Lingus, British Airways and KLM have cancelled a significant number of flights from Dublin to UK airports.

“High winds due to Storm Ali will have an impact on the flight schedule today. Please check with your airline before coming to the airport,” Dublin Airport Authority said.
