BA Pilots Accept New Pay Deal

British Airways pilots have voted in favour of a deal that will temporarily cut pay by 20% and see the loss of up to 270 jobs

British Airways pilots have voted in favour of a deal that will temporarily cut pay by 20% and see the loss of up to 270 jobs.

The deal, which was negotiated by union BALPA, means the ‘fire and rehire’ system will no longer proceed.

The agreed deal means there will be temporary 20% pay cuts which will lessen to 8% over a two year period and decreasing over the longer term.

The deal does not cancel out compulsory redundancies which are currently estimated to be 270 although BALPA have said that that number will fall as mitigations take effect.

BALPA General Secretary Brian Strutton said “Our members have made a pragmatic decision in the circumstances but the fact that we were unable to persuade BA to avoid all compulsory redundancies is bitterly disappointing.”

The ballot result was 85% to accept the deal on an 87% turnout.
