Asia Beating the Covid Curve as Flights Rebound

Want to know what the world's busiest airline routes are now?

The coronavirus pandemic has hit the aviation industry particularly hard. Thousands of planes have been grounded as the world imposes strict measures on travel, massively restricting where we can travel.

While international flights are still feeling the sting, some domestic routes are starting to see recovery as people are able to travel domestically.

Asia has seen the quickest recovery – all 10 of the world’s busiest domestic routes this month, according to OAG Aviation Worldwide Ltd, were located in the region.

South Korea has the busiest by far, particularly between the capital Seoul and the island of Jeju. According to OAG, has around 1.3 million seats scheduled in November.

It’s no surprise that this route has recovered quickest, the Jeju-Seoul was the world’s busiest domestic route last year with over 17 million seats (about 48,000 on average a day) sold. The route is short – it takes a little over an hour to fly between the capital and the island.

Next on the list are China and Japan. China’s busiest route is from capital Beijing to Shanghai’s Hongqiao Airport. Hong Kong-Taipei is eighth on the international list with 93,922 seats – last year this was the world’s busiest international route with almost eight million seats sold.
