ANITA Says Latest Update Does Not Go Far Enough

The Northern Ireland Travel Industry's leading political voice says the latest update falls far short of what was needed

With the travel traffic light announcement having just been made, the Northern Ireland Travel Industry’s leading political voice says the latest update falls far short of what was needed.

Damian Murphy from ANITA said: “I think we all felt the time was right for a much larger re-shuffle of the current traffic light system. The green list could have been expanded way beyond what we got (no real mainstream holiday destinations) and countries such as Turkey could easily have moved to Amber.

“This review would have been an ideal time to look at the harsh testing regimne imposed on the Northern Ireland traveller – remembering the UK are the only country in Europe with the complicated inbound testing requirements. At the very least I feel it should have been mentioned that this would soon come under review and give some hope that the amount of people travelling abroad would increase between now and the end of the year.

“It really is now time that our governments came more into line with the rest of Europe where almost without exception international travel has resumed at a much higher level!”
