ANITA Join Calls for Urgent Testing Review

As holiday destinations continue to slowly reopen local NI travel agent body ANITA have joined the calls for an urgent review on the UK return testing requirements

As holiday destinations continue to slowly reopen local NI travel agent body the Association of Northern Ireland Tavel Agents have joined the calls for an urgent review on the UK return testing requirements.

Damian Murphy from ANITA said: “With more and more destinations starting to re-open for visitors the number of enquiries agents here are getting has returned to a healthy level, however conversions remain low and this is partly due to UK testing requirements.

“The UK appear to be the only nation needing two tests just to get home and it has been pretty obvious that numbers departing from Dublin have risen much faster than here because anyone who has a vaccine certificate doesn’t have to test to get back home.

“We would call for pre-return testing to be scrapped immediately and day two testing on return to be done away with soon after. We know this will only apply for those who are fully vaccinated to begin with so it is also imperative that the cost of a day two test is also reduced. It is quite obvious to us all that the desire to travel (and for a number of reasons) is growing all the time and now is the time for the UK government to come into line with the rest of Europe and do something about this return testing.”
