‘Alternative Durations’ on the Rise as Trusty Seven Night Holiday Could be a Thing of the Past

Leading travel and leisure company reports alternative durations are up +61% year on year with family bookings driving the change

TUI UK has today added a further 1,000 hotels on sale for summer 2025, to aid the trend for flexible durations. The company are seeing alternative durations, outside the typical seven, ten and fourteen-night break, grow in popularity. Nine-night stays are the top selling holiday length for this summer, but the biggest increases year on year are eight-night stays, which are up +231% and 12-nights which are up +294%. Five-night stays are up nearly +30% and six-night stays up +188% vs last year.  

 The additional hotels are on sale across five, six, eight, nine and twelve nights, as the company have seen a +61% increase year on year, driven mostly by family bookings where “alternative” durations are up +123%. Enabled by TUI Airways and partner-airlines from over 20 regional airports across the UK, the holiday provider is providing more flexibility than ever before.

 The additional hotels are also offering free kids’ places catering to the family market and increased demand. Demand for free kids’ places are up for summer 2024 by 11% vs last year.
