The US could continue to keep their borders closed to international travellers until November.
Airlines had been expecting the US to ease travel rules from next month, however reports suggest this will not be the case.
The continued closure has been blamed on a surge in the Delta variant.
In the meantime, the White House has said it was actively looking at ways to reopen borders to EU and UK citizens even if only for fully vaccinated travellers.
Both the UK and EU have already reopened their borders for vaccinated Americans.
